What began as a domestic disturbance turned into a traffic stop that ended with the death of an estranged husband. James Todora was shot to death by police in Las Vegas after being pulled over for driving with a broken taillight.
Though the officer performing the traffic stop was unaware of Todora’s circumstances, the man was apparently distraught over a series of run ins with his estranged wife. She had called police on him at least two times in the days before his death, saying that he was banging on her front door and threatening her with a weapon. A temporary restraining order was in place to keep the couple safely separated.
Obviously Todora will not be facing charges for domestic violence under NRS 200.485. However, if he had survived his encounter with police he may have been looking at significant jail time. There’s no way to know whether or not Todora would have been convicted of anything, especially since he’s lost the opportunity to defend himself in a court of law, but if you are facing similar charges, then it is imperative that you contact the criminal defense attorneys at the Potter Law Offices.
